St George’s University of London and St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust identified a need to provide a clinic for musculoskeletal disorders at its site in Tooting. Working with the Trust, BBF-Fielding have integrated accommodation for musculoskeletal treatment, research and education into the Hotung Centre.
The scheme is located on a restricted site adjacent to the existing hospital. The brief required the provision of Treatment and Consulting Rooms, together with Offices and Seminar Rooms, for use by the Hospital Medical School. Within the main structure at mezzanine level there is additional accommodation for IT facilities.
The distinctive pyramid shape of the Hotung building is intended to provide a focal point and an easily identifiable destination within the large complex of hospital buildings that make up the St Georges site.
BBFF and their Design Team colleagues undertook careful co-ordination of the design and building operations in order to minimise disruption to this busy healthcare facility.
